Intersil – New low-power 16-bit ADCs simplify multi-channel system design

Expanding its growing family of high-speed, low- power analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) for communications and data acquisition applications, Intersil has unveiled the new 16-bit ISLA216P series of ADCs.

Designed using proprietary FemtoCharge technology, the ISLA216P series features sample rates up to 250 Megasamples per second (MSPS) with power consumption of only 786mW – 40% less than competitive devices while maintaining SFDR of 87dBc at a 30MHz input frequency. This new low-power series of ADCs significantly reduces heat dissipation and cooling requirements, enabling customers to lower overall system costs and increase reliability.

The ISLA216P also requires just 200 microseconds of wake-up recovery time from low power modes, maximizing the utility of its power down features. These features demonstrate Intersil’s commitment to low power, ecologically friendly devices that deliver best-in-class performance, says the company.

The ISLA216P series are members of Intersil’s recently announced 12-, 14-, and 16-bit ADCs, and are pin-compatible with all other single-channel ADCs in the family. Pin-compatibility across sample rate and resolution facilitates design reuse and significantly reduces time-to-market.

If you're new to this and don't know what a MAXQ is, don't worry--the book spells out the basics of embedded design for beginners while providing material useful for advanced systems designers. The second edition of Designing Embedded Hardware has been updated to include information on the latest generation of processors and microcontrollers, including the new MAXQ processor. Along with the growing list of devices for which embedded computer systems are appropriate, interest is growing among programmers, hobbyists, and engineers of all types in how to design and build devices of their own. Embedded computer systems literally surround us: they're in our cell phones, PDAs, cars, TVs, refrigerators, heating systems, and more. Furthermore, the knowledge offered by this book into the fundamentals of these computer systems can benefit anyone who has to evaluate and apply the systems....
